Alpacas attacked in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY -- Two alpacas were attacked by a wild animal early Friday at a property north of Mapaville, according to the Jefferson County sheriff. One of the alpacas died and the other was injured. The injured animal was taken to a veterinary hospital. Missouri Department of Conservation officials were not able to determine what type of animal attacked the alpacas in the 9900 block of Sandy Church Road. Photographs of the paw prints of the attacking animal will be submitted to biologists in Jefferson City in an attempt to identify the species. The sheriff's department has had no other recent reports of animals being attacked in the area. ?
